在美國Emory大學CCSCBE (Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics) 主任Prof. Lobsang Tenzin Negi 與 Tsondule Samphel 先生的推薦之下，2023年7月14日，籌備處老師們到台北拜訪正在台灣訪問教學的 Prof. Arri Eisen。
Prof. Arri Eisen已在Emory大學任教 32 年，任職於生物系、人文學院和倫理中心，並且是Emory大學 西藏僧侶的科學課程計畫：Emory- Tibet Science Initiative (ETSI) 的領導者和發起者。從2008年起到現在，每年應達賴喇嘛尊者的要求，與來自世界各地的教師合作，全年和夏季在印度達蘭薩拉為僧侶開發永續的生命科學、神經科學和宇宙學課程…，更將專業延伸至佛法與科學。
這是一次愉快的見面會，聆聽他透過教導僧侶科學，如何改變他的世界觀、教學哲學與方法。並邀請他7月21日線上繼續為我們分享他在ETSI的經驗，做進一步的交流。
On the recommendation of Prof. Lobsang Tenzin Negi, the directors of CCSCBE (Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics), and Mr. Tsondule Samphel at Emory University in the United States, on July 14, 2023, teachers from the Bliss and Wisdom Buddhist Preparatory Office traveled to Taipei to meet Prof. Arri Eisen, who was visiting and teaching in Taiwan.
Prof. Eisen has taught at Emory University for 32 years, serving in the Department of Biology, College of Humanities, and Center for Ethics, and is the leader and initiator of the Emory-Tibet Science Initiative (ETSI), Emory University’s scientific curriculum program for Tibetan monks.
From 2008 to now, every year at the request of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, ETSI cooperates with teachers from all over the world to develop sustainable life science, neuroscience, and cosmology courses for monks and nuns in Dharamsala, India throughout the year and summer…and extends the profession to Buddhism and science.
It was a pleasure to meet and hear how Prof. Eisen has changed his worldview, teaching philosophy and methodology by instructing Buddhist monks and nuns about science. The Preparatory Office invited him to continue sharing his experience in ETSI with us online on July 21 for further exchange.
